Problems With eBay

There is no doubt about it, eBay has made some major recent changes to their pricing structure & policies. They have lowered insertion fees, increased final value fees, & more. However there are many other less obvious changes that can also impact selling on the huge auction site.
One of the less obvious changes are restrictions and alert warnings eBay has placed on sellers listing items in certain categories. Some of these new restrictions & changes could impact you regardless of what you sell online. Here are a few of the new changes below:

eBay Restricts Items that Have High Counterfeit Rates  If you sell name brand clothing, expensive jewelry or purses (such as Louis Vuitton), software, electronics, & more, you could be restricted to the number of auctions you can list or revise within a 7 day period. Especially if it is an item that can potentially be counterfeited or replicated.
How does this work? Well if you list too many auction listings within a 7-day period, you will suddenly be restricted & you will not be able to list a similar item.  If you try to list the item you will get an alert that reads something such as this:
“Alert-eBay’s Trust & Safety Team has placed certain restrictions on items with a high rate of counterfeit & replica’s the number of items that can be listed or revised within a seven day period. For more information, you can email eBay’s customer service.”
So this could really slow sellers down. If you want to list more, you will either have to list them on a separate eBay account, or simply email customer service & wait anywhere from a few days until a few weeks for them to raise the restrictions (assuming of course that they actually remove them for you).
It is unclear exactly what the magic number is on the maximum number of listings a seller can list before the alert is displayed, which prevents the seller from listing additional “high risk counterfeit” items.

Alerts/Warnings on Shipping Prices if eBay Thinks They are Too High Another alert sellers have been receiving is a warning alert that shipping prices could potentially be too high.
This alert is given before you list the auction, however it does not prevent you from listing your item like the restrictions mentioned above do. Here is an example of the alert below:
“Alert- We noticed that your shipping and handling prices are high compared to other items listed in the same category. We recommend you lower your prices. It is against eBay policy to list items with excess shipping and handling charges.”
